I have McKitrick's living in Lancaster County, Pa from about 1812 to 1840.They moved from Pa to Ohio and eventually settled in Hamilton County by 1842.Some of the children moved on to East Baton Rouge, La in about 1850.Have no trace of McKitrick family members who remained in Ohio after 1860.
Is it just coincidence that brought two McKitrick families all the way from Ireland to SE Pennsylvania in the early 1800 or is it possible that these families are related?
Thomas McKitrick b abt 1785, son of Edward, married Catherine Tally of Ireland in 1804. They and their two children Mary b 1805 and Frank b 1807 were living in the vicinity of Draghada, prior to their departure in 1812. Family lore has it that this family had unfortunately backed a loser in the Celtic wars.
Originally from Scotland and blacksmiths by trade they made arms for the Celts during a local insurrection and were asked to leave Scotland. In the Battle of the Boyne they supported the Irish which eventually lead to their immigration to Pa.
Thomas and Catherine had nine children: Mary, Frank, Edward, Peter, Daniel, Thomas Jr., Joseph, Catherine and David.
Do you have any information concerning this branch of the family tree? We have complete information on the descendents of Catherine and David but nothing on the rest after about 1860.
