Hi.I'm the daughter of John Robert McKlveen, born in Trafford, PA in 1919.
The story my father tells is that the McKlveens originally came to the U. S. (specifically Westmoreland County, PA) from Glasgow by way of Ulster.
One or more McKlveens came sometime in the late 1700's or early 1800's, supposedly because they got in trouble with the Brits.
I am interested in finding out if this has any truth to it.Where would I go to learn about McKlveens in Ireland and Scotland?
In addition, I am interested in finding out the origin and meaning of the name McKlveen. My understanding is that it is a "lowland" name, with none of the romantic associations of the highland clans--no tartan, no rebellions, no nothing.
Any pointers in the right direction appreciated. Thanks!
