I never expected a reply in a month of Sundays!Yes, my father was Scottish. He was brought up in Gourock, which is a small town to the west of Glasgow, on the River Clyde. His grandfather came from the Isle of Mull and later became an inspector with the Glasgow police.
Strangely, I was in Scotland for a holiday only last week and made my first visit to the Mull of Kintyre.I think a lot of McLarty's came from the west coast and islands around Oban/Argyllshire.I have visited a number of cemetries around there and found quite a few McLarty's buried there.
You ought to find time in your schedule to visit the island of Islay - which is most famous for whisky - where there is an archaeological site called Finlaggen, which is believed to be the homestead of the MacDonald clan - the Lord of the Isles. It is also extremely beautiful and peaceful there, as long as it's not raining!
Not sure if I can offer a great deal more on my family roots, but I'd be happy to help - and I love Scotland, so get up there whenever it's possible to do so.
I tried sending this on a personal email, but it was not delivered - hence a more public reply.
