My father David McLellan was one of 3 children of Duncan (above). They grew up in Mount Forest, Ontario, Canada.Charles, Annie, Archibald and Catherine left we believe Kilchiaran, Islay during the Scottish Cleansing in the 1840 to 1850 to Ontario, Canada. We have not identified the ship, port or exact time.Is it possible the crown gave any land in Ontario, Canada for those immigrating during this period.
I am trying to identify any details of this family still in Islay, including the farm they were tenants on, who Archibald’s parents were other brothers or sisters, where their son Peter went, any family and who the person was that told them to leave their home/Islay Scotland etc.We are also aware, and have some documentation this family was cousins of Sir Colin Cambell, whose parents lived on Islay.Further, we know his estate included some distribution to Archibald’s family, either $ or rights to land in Ontario. We have seen a distribution listing of his estate but find no name we can cross-reference to our family.Perhaps, you can provide additional details of this relationship?
Thanking you in advance, Sincerely James McLellan
