Lois, Thanks so much for your encouragement! That always helps.Actually I have looked at both spellings and always seem to come back to the McLendon one.My Rufus would have to be born sometime in the late 1800's or very early 1900's due to the fact that his son Oliver (my father in-law) would have to be born in the 1920's.My mother-in-law (Gladys Defore b-2/4/31) was only 15 when she married Oliver in 1945 and my husband was born in 1946.
I did manage to come across this info Charles Rufus McLendon b-1902 in Webster Co. GA. (if this one was married to a lady, maiden name Glass, then he's the one.How can I find maybe a marriage record?)
and his father:Thomas Rufus McLendon - b- 2/25/1856 - d - 1/8/1929 mother:Henrietta Brown
grandfather:William McLendon grandmother:Jane W. Peel
I also found another Rufus McLendon, b - 1/24/1911, d-9/1972SSN#254-34-9182 30457 Soperton Treutlan, GA. However, I'm thinking this one might be born too late to be the Rufus I'm actually looking for.
Also, the Rufus I'm looking for raised two of his grandchildren from his daughter (I think she was his only daughter) and their first names were Winona and Victor.Have no clue what their last names would have been. His daughter lived in Kentucky at the time.He had another son, Clarence (nicknamed "Baby") who was younger than Oliver.Don't have any other facts on him at the moment.
