E-mail me when you get back from England. I don't have anything but extremely close clues. For instance, the Thomas Hobbs I mentioned had a son, Thomas Maclin Hobbs, but my birthdate for him would put him at 22 in 1880, not 11. Also, I have at least three James A. McLins who might link to your guy.
As far as I can tell, there are only two branches of the McLin/Maclin (not counting the McLeans or other variations) family in Tennessee before the Civil War, and I have info on both lines, but I lose track of some of these people about 1830-1840, because they become so remote from my direct line. The names you are showing in your census are repeated every generation in both of these lines. I feel confident we could connect your family if we work on it.
