I had just recently found that same information when I Googled his name. My son was looking into genealogy on my side of the family and was interested in the baseball side of it. I went on this website and when I saw your posting. I was hoping you might be inquiring because of recognizing the name McMachan (or as Uncle Sam spelled it, McMackin). I have recently found some family papers that state Uncle Sam was born Nov. 24, 1872 in Cleveland, died Feb. 11, 1903, at the age of 30, and is buried in Cleveland, cause of death unknown. We had traced my grandfather's father (and Grampa's uncle, (also named Sam) to Maryland where they were officers in the Civil War. Still not clear how and why my great-grandfather Henry McMachan, (b. 1840, d. 1911, a roofer, went to Cleveland and how he met my great-grandmother who had been living there after being born in Dunkirk, NY. Was your interest because of baseball or because of the name? Thanks for replying!
