Hi Joseph McMath of Warren County, GA researchers!
I'm wondering if there is a link between Joseph McMath (1750-1824) of Warren County and Phillip McMath (1770-185?) of Thomas County, GA. Would love any reactions to this idea.
1. Phillip McMath would seem to be the father of Andrew McMath, also of Thomas County, GA (proximity being my main source at this time). Reason for interest: Needham T. McMath, son of Hachaliah, grandson of Joseph, lived in Thomas County, GA, next door to Andrew McMath in the 1860 census. This might suggest some relationship between the two families...
2. Far from conclusive, but still worth speculating about is the 1850 census, where Philip and Dorothy live next door to a woman Sarah Johnson who has a son name Lott (the name of a son of Hachaliah).
My reason for wondering is that Philip says he was from North Carolina, which makes him a likely candidate to tie in to the Ornage/Chatham County, NC crowd; then Andrew says he was born in SC which gives us another place to search for leads to the origins of Joseph McMath.
Concluding, you can see that this is all a speculative thing at this time, but I'd like to follow up on it and see if it leads to anything.
Thanks for info on the Thomas County folks! Nancy Mann
