Am interested in Mcmillans of Kilmallie but so far have little information. My gt gt grandmother, Jean McMillan married William Wood at Douglas LKS in 1826. I assume Jean was there as a domestic or as seasonal labour. Jean died in Milton, Glasgow, in 1872 aged 70, when her birthplace was given as Kilmallie, Argyll, and her parents as John McMillan, herring fisherman, and Mary McMillan. At censuses Jean always gave her place of birth as Kilmallie, Argyll. When William and Jean's son James was married to Jeanie McVey in Glasgow in 1865 two McMillans signed the register, Hugh, either as witness or minister, and Catherine as witness. To date, I have not been able to find anything about John and Mary in Kilmallie, though I note that a Ewen was born to parents with these names in 1803. The Kilmallie OPRs were poorly kept and I have not discovered estate records that help. McMillans are legion in the parish (as are Camerons). James Wood and family emigrated to South Africa about 1878 so there are no contacts through them. Any ideas of how to progress in Kilmallie would be appreciated.
