I think we are we just have to figure it out.I love to find death records for Alex & James after 1880,but haven¡¦t had any luck with that yet. Here is what I think I have on your line:
On the 1885 map of Brighton it shows a big piece of land on Shepard St. and it is owned by Alex McMurtry.
In the 1880 census I believe your Albert is 15 and lives on Shepard St. Brighton but it is under Boston Ward 25; District 785. He is with his father Alex (age 42) and mother Jane (age 42). Albert's siblings are: George H. 13; Frederick 11; Marietta 9. Also listed is my connection James (Alex's father) age 70 widowed.
In 1870 Alexander McMurty, age 35 is at the same address but it is under Brighton. No idea why, but it is the same neighbors etc. He is listed with Jane age 33, Son Albert I 5; George H. 3; and Fred 1.
Nearby is Alex's brother Robert, age 30 with wife Margaret, age 30. Sarah J. age 7; Robert H age 4.
In 1860, James, age 48 is the head of the same property. His wife is Sarah, age 48. Their children are: Robert 22;Samuel 18; Margaret 14?; and William 8. Wm was born in mass all others were born in Ireland. James is a butcher. I believe Alex was already on his own at that point.
I also believe the family arrived between 1846-1853, because of Williams birth and my Elizabeth¡¦s marriage in 1853.
There are a few other records I found on NEHGS but it appears records from Brighton between 1874-1910 are not on there. Then there is the spelling issue¡K.McMuty, McMurtry, with an I or an e or an ie¡Kor an mac¡Kit makes me nuts ƒº
