First, I'm looking for further information on my great great grandfather. His name was Archibald McIlvain. Its confusing looking spelling. I guess its MCILVAIN. I believe his address was listed as 12 Clarence Street in Clydebank Scotland.
I'm curious as to what his wifes name and maiden name were, what his parents names were ,where they were from and any more information as to that side of the family. Someone already helped me a lot to trace back that far.
I'll give some background information. My fathers mother was Margaret McNaught. It also listed as McNaughton on my fathers death certificate for some reason. If not sure if "on" means anything.
Anyway,Margaret McNaughts parents were John McNaught and margaret/mary McIlvain. Their children were my grandmother Margaret,Mary,Janet,Georgina.(born in Dumbarton Scotland)
I believe Margaret/Mary McIlvains father is mentioned on a ship arrival on the SS Cameronia on december 23,1924 as Archibald McIlvain.
I talked to my aunt and she mentioned someone came over on the Tuscania I think. Perhaps John McNaught came over on the Tuscania. Archibald McIlvain may have stayed in Scotland.
I dont know how much that is to go on but I want to look back another generation on that side. If you see any more information about Archibald McIlvain that would be great.
I'm also realizing i dont know who my great grandfather John McNaughts parents were or much about him either. Let me know if anything shows up. John McNaught supposedly was born in Scotland in 1871 and i think he once lived at 949 Avenue E in Bayonne, Hudson County, NJ. He possibly came over on the Tuscania.
