Oscar Jack McQuigg, 83, of rural East Lynn, grandfather of a Bloomington resident, died at 3:10 a.m. Monday (Feb. 2, 2004) at his home. Born July 11, 1920, in Hoopeston, he was the son of James and Eva Benham McQuigg.He married Annabel Leigh on Aug. 3, 1941, in East Lynn.She preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1995. He is survived by one daughter, Carol (Arthur) Heck, rural East Lynn; one son, Bruce (Nancy) McQuigg, rural East Lynn; three grandchildren, Paige (Kevin) Luebchow, St. Joseph; Stacy (Ryan) Cook, Bloomington; Esther (Johnathan) Getchell, Noblesville, Ind; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Luebchow; Austin Luebchow; and Judah Getchell; and one very special aunt, Bertha Hammerton, Peoria. His parents preceded in him in death. Mr. McQuigg had farmed in the East Lynn area his entire life, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the East Lynn United Methodist Church. He was graduated from East Lynn High School, Class of 1938. Mr. McQuigg served in the Army Air Corp., during World War II as a flight instructor. He was a member of the American Legion Post 384 of Hoopeston and the Farm Bureau.He was a 4-H Leader for 10 years, served on the FHA board for three years, served on the Vermilion County Board for 12 years, taught Sunday school for 10 years, coached girls softball for 10 years, coached boys softball for 10 years, was a volunteer with the Hoopeston multi-agency for many years, and served on the Rankin Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. A memorial service for Mr. McQuigg will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown - Alkire Funeral Home, Hoopeston, Pastors Jeff Johns and Randy Downing officiating.Burial will be in East Lynn Cemetery, East Lynn.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
