Hello John;
I had a conversation several years ago with Kathleen McQuilkin of Bridgeport, Connecticut.She was from Dumbarton and was the granddaughter of William McQuilkin b. 1865 in Carrick-Fergus, d.1944 in Dumbarton.He had three sons; (1) William b.11/9/1892 moved to Dumbarton in 1912 and died there in 1963; (2) Joseph(your gfather?)b. about 1894; and (3) Alex b. about 1896.All three were probably born in Carrick-Fergus.(1) William had two children; Kathleen b.1927(above, no children) and William b.1925 who had three daughters -Elizabeth & Theresa of Dumbarton & Helen, of Perth.(3) Alex had two sons (twins I think); William of Dumbarton and Alex, now in Australia.(2) Joseph was said to have went to London and had a son called Joseph.
I hope this helps.Let me know if you find any more info.
Good luck;
ALLAN MCQUILKIN
