My understanding is that Capt G. J. McRee (McRee's / McKree) was a Continental Line officer, not a militia officer, and that he was a company commander in the 6th NC Regiment. At some point in the American Revolutionary War, the 6th NC ceased to exist, and the remnant of the 6th was folded into the 1st NC Regiment.
Capt. Griffin J. McRees’ seems to have been at Valley Forge; his Oath of Allegience [reported under the spoelling, "McKree"] was seen in "The Army and Navy of the United States 1776-1891" (Philadelphia: George Barrie Publisher, 1890), cited and quoted on the “Colonial Ancestors” website:
I am researching the Richmond Terrell who was in Capt. G. J. McRee's company, hoping to establish a linkage between the AmRev soldier & my Richmond Terrell who was born c.1759, and who died in Iberville Parish, Louisiana in 1815/1816.
