I have some family history of McShanes.

Supposedly 4 McShane brothers ran from English in 1800s, 2 caught at docks, 2 escaped to United States, lived in New York. Other 2 sent to England’s Australian penal colony right off the docks in Ireland. One was dirt poor, his children starved in New York somewhere upstate?

Some of the story posted before jibes w/ the above.

Descendant, Charles McShane, my great grandfather, lived in Detroit, Michigan, US, and his only son, Eugene, was killed in WWII. That's where this branch of the McShane name ends, in Detroit. Charles married Mary Conroy, daughter of Conroys that married English royal Palmer family.I believe the Conroys were from Syracuse, New York.

Had 2 daughters, RoseMary and Shirley, Rose was my maternal grandmother. Rose married Donn Hickman, my grandfather, my mother married Karl W. Mantyla from Waterford/Detroit, Michigan area.

A Conroy I never met lived in Farmington, Michigan, where i still have family living.

This info comes through my uncles, Timothy and Jeremy Hickman, who spoke w/ Charles some time before his death in the 1960s or early 70s.

Today I play guitar, write songs and sing with a friend under the name "The Stewed McShanes" in Irish Hills/Brooklyn, Michigan.
