He was born around 1828. He got married to Mary McCarthy between 1848 and 1849 in some RC parish other than Currow. They had seven children. They were living in Kilcow 1850 when their first child Edmund was born but moved to Rathnaleen by 1854 and lived there for the birth of the rest of their children.

Edward “Edmund” McSweeney (c.1781 – 10/11/1861) Edward McSweeney of Rathnaleen was born c.1781. He is named in the Tithe Applotments in 1827 at Rathnaleen. He had at least three children.He died on the 10th Nov.1861, aged 80 and is buried in Kilsorcan.
