I believe I have found my Mears family in the 1860 census. They are indexed as Marns.
1860 Yalobusha MS census SW BeatRoll M653_594Pg 92
Wm Marns 52 M Bricklayer NC Elizabeth " 40 F MS John " 17 M MS(Could this be JL who married Mattie?) Abraham " 13 M MS James " 12 M MS Margret " 11 F MS Henry " 9 M MS Simpson " 6 M MS (Believe this to be my g/grandfather) Lewis " 4 M MS Cinthe " 2 F MS Nancy " 2mo F MS
I have looked at the family and come up with:
John is JL who is married to Mattie in the 1880 McLennan County, TX census. The age of the 1860 and 1880 John/JL is 17 and 37.
Abraham could be the AW who is living with my SP Mears in the 1880 McLennan County, TX census. The age does not quite match. Abraham is 13 in the 1860 census and AW is 30 in the 1880, but it is fairly close. There is an AW Mears who married a Susan (?) Driver in Falls County, TX around 1873 or so. AW is divorced in 1880 and there is a Susan Mears living with William Driver in 1880 McLennan County, TX and she is divorced.
James could be the James M Mears who married Permelia Driver of Falls County, TX.James is 12 on the 1860 census and 31 on the 1880 Denton County, TX census. This same James could have married a Susan Jackson in McLennan County, TX later ( I don't have my info in front of me). Living next door to James M Mears in the 1880 Denton County, TX census is a James M Hazell who is married to a Margeratt, age 30 and born in MS, her father born in NC and mother in MS. Her age in 1860 is 11--so I am going up the assumption, at the moment, that she could be the Margret in the 1860 Yalobusha census.
Henry could be the Henry C who married Caroline Dungan on Nov 5 1870 in Claiborne County, MS. There is a Henry C on the 1880 Dallas County, TX married to a Caroline. He is 28 and born in MS. On the 1860 census, Henry is 9. I sent for his death certificate, he died in 1932, but there is a "don't know" in the places for the info for his mother and father.
I believe the Simpson on the 1860 census is my g/grandfather. He is 6 on the 1860 census and SP Mears on the 1880 McLennan County census is 25.
I believe the Lewis on the 1860 census is Louis Stephens Mears who married Louisa Josephine Crowson around 1879 in Fannin County, TX. I wasn't able to find him on the 1880 census.
There is a Cintha J Mears who married a John Farrell in Claiborne, MS in 1871.If this is the Cinthe listed on the 1860 census, she married very young. Louis Stephens Mears named a son David Farrell Mears--look on rootsweb.com for Louis Stephens children.
I haven't found any additional info on Nancy Mears.
The mother,Elizabeth, on the 1860 census is 40.A Mrs.Elizabeth Mears marries a John W Mathews on Mar 10, 1869 in Claiborne County, MS. The Elizabeth Mathis listed in the 1880 household of JL and Mattie is 60.I believe she is one and the same.
Of course, most of the above is speculation and trying to put 2 and 2 together.I will still keep searching.
If you have any additional info on the Mears family, please share with me.
