Thought I would let you know that I have identified George (Muggy) Measure's father and mother, brothers and sisters.
George (Muggy) Measures George was married to Ann Taylor at St Margarets Church, Leicester on the 17th May 1853, the marriage cert states that he was a Baker aged 20, father being James Measures, also a Baker.Ann is recorded as a Frame Work Knitter (FWK) being aged 19, father a Thomas Taylor,The marriage was witnessed by a Thomas and Sally Merryfield who married in the same church in 1849.
There is some confusion with age of George as the marriage cert puts his birth as 1832/1833, the 1841 census 1835/1836, the 1851 census 1832/35.
George (Muggy) Measures Father and Mother Fathers name was James who in 1841 was aged 40 (That makes his birth date 1800/1801, he was confectioner residing in Wharf Street, Leicester and in 1851 residing at 43 Wharf Street Leicester as a Baker, he was married to a Susanna or Sarah ?, her age was also 40.Confusing that the 1841 census states her name as Susanna and in 1851 named as Sarah, will try and clarify this, she was from Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire.
George (Muggy) Measures Brothers and Sisters I have identified the he had 3 brothers and 2 sisters, based on the 1841 census these are as follows:
Jamesborn 1837/1838 George (Muggy)born 1832 to 1836 Sarahborn 1827/1828 Johnborn 1827/1828 Elizaborn 1825/1826(Married Samuel Robinson, 13/10/1873, St Margarets Church, Leic,) Charlesborn 1825/1826
Charles Measures Marriage Records show that Charles Measures,(Brother of George (Muggy)) was in 1841 a Frame Work Knitter,on 18th Sept 1842 (That makes him Aged 16) he married a Sarah Davis, also a Frame Work Knitter born 1826/1827, (That makes her aged 17),at St Margarets Church Leicester, stated that her father was a Thomas Davis, Labourer, witnessed by Robert Smith and one other Smith ?.The marriage cert states ther ages as "Minors"
Charles and Sarah had at least two children:
Henryborn 1847/1848 Eliza Kateborn 1844/1845
In 1861 and 1864Charles and Sarah are running a Greengrocer's at 11 Russell Sq, Leicester, In 1870 Mrs Sarah Measures running the same shop at 11 Russell Sq, Leicester. No mention of Charles or Sarah after 1870, could have died.
