Dean Edward Megee
Dean Edward Megee, 63, of Blackwell, Oklahoma and Moab, Utah passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 in Moab, Utah. He was born January 27, 1947 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Jessie Edgar and Dorthie Lea (Mason) Megee.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma with Rev. Larry B. Metzger, Pastor Dan Sharp and Chris Condit, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Blackwell Funeral Home, Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Dean attended Po Hi in Ponca City, Oklahoma where he lettered in wrestling.After graduating from Po Hi he attended Northern Oklahoma College and then went to Oklahoma State University where he received his bachelor’s degree. He then served four years in the U.S. Navy in Guam and Vietnam.
Dean married Kathryn Condit on October 23, 1970. They would have celebrated 40 years this year.
Dean started running white-water rafting adventures on the Colorado River for North American River Expeditions in 1976 through 1989. In 1990, Dean switched companies to work for Tag-a-Long, doing what he enjoyed, being a white water river guide and also taking tourists on exciting 4-wheel driving adventures. He had a great love for nature and life. When time or weather conditions were not conducive for outdoor activities, you could always find Dean with a book, eitherin a library or bookstore or in his favorite reading chair with the dog curled up beside him and his infamous coffee mug within reach.
He moved back to Oklahoma about five years ago, but always returned to Moab for a summer of fun on the Colorado River and around the beautiful La Sal Mountains. When he was not working in Moab, Utah he was working for the G & C Concrete Company in Blackwell, Oklahoma. No mater where he was he always was a great grandpa to his grandchildren which he loved so much.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of the home; one son, Travis Megee and his wife, Lynn of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Janet Israel and her husband Joel of Cedar City, Utah; his mother, Dorthie Spears of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one bother, David Megee of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one sister, Laverne Megee of Grand Junction, Colorado; four grandchildren, Aidan and Fiona Megee, Feid and Gabby Israel; numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Edgar Megee.
