There is an article in "Downeast Ancestry" on "THE JOHN MEGQUIRE FAMILY OF NEW GLOUCESTER, MAINE" by Patricia Guerin Marchon. This article is in Volume 3 Number 3 October 1978. Pages 12 and 13
The article says that John Megquier came to North Yarmouth, Maine about 1748. According to a "daybook" kept by his son William, John and his brother Andrew arrive in America in 1745. Andrew was lost at sea leaving John on his own.
He was a staunch Baptist. He served in the Revolutionary War.

The Gravestone of of John Megquire is in the burial yard at Cower's Corner in New Gloucester, Maine and reads:
JOHN MEGQUIRE, died December 27, 1825 Aged 93 years. "He was one of the first Proprietors and first settlers of New Gloucester, and was one of those who felled the trees on the spot where his remains are now deposited. A Patriotic Citizen and an Honest Man."
