Ruth Harms Ruth Arlene Harms, 93, of New London, died at 845 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at the New
London Care Center.
Born Feb. 23, 1905, she was the daughter of the Rev. James and Zella Mehaffy. She married Fred William
Harms Jan. 25, 1941, in Canton, Mo. He died June 26, 1976.
She had been a home ec teacher in several districts, including eight years in New London. She also was a
dietician at Iowa Wesleyan College for two years and head dietician at the Mental Health Institute in Mount
Pleasant until her retirement. She and her husband owned and operated the Londonaire Motel in New London
for 25 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Hall, of Santa Fe, N.M.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
The body of Mrs. Harms has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Elliott Chapel in
New London. Burial will be in Alden Cemetery.
