Not so much a mystery anymore.Success thanks to the guidance of the online gen community (especially the Australia forum) I was able to confirm the following (with backup even!).
As of April 24, 2009:
JAMES MEHIGAN, was born May 24, 1853 at Ringaskiddy, Cork, Ireland, to Timothy Mehigan, a mariner, and Margaret O’Brien. He was listed on May 26, 1853 at a Roman Catholic Parish in Passage West, Cork Harbour, Ireland. At the young age of 17, he had already started his life long career with the Royal Navy, as he was aboard the wooden gun vessel the HMS Pert that, at that time, was sailing off the coast of Africa. In 1881 he was working with the Royal Navy Coast Guard and living in the Yarmouth Coast Guard Cottages. At age 28 he married 1) ELIZABETH SULLIVAN, age 21, on April 20, 1882 at The Chapel of St. Thomas of Canterbury in Newport, Isle of Wight, England. She was the daughter of Daniel Sullivan, a mariner (wife unknown) born about 1861 and died September 2, 1886 at Isle of Wight, England. At time of marriage she was living at Fellows Road, Cowes, Southhampton, Isle of Wight. After the death of Elizabeth (Sullivan) Mehigan at age 25 of pneumonia, James married 2) ANN “ANNIE” O’REILLY about 1888 in Queenstown, Cork, Ireland.

PRICE, JR. on Oct. 12, 1900, at Oakland, California and had children in that marriage. Daniel Timothy died May 10, 1955, at age 72 years, at Oakland, Alameda, California.
