I am reseaching my branch of Muckles. I know that in the 1700's the name Meickle was a variation on the spelling of Muckle, or vice versa. Certainly Muckle means the same 'great', or 'big', and finding that most of my ancestors were stone masons, that's probably why. I also understand that Muckles were a sept of the Clan Lamont as well.
Has anyone come across Muckle in their reserch as an alternative name to Meikle and how far back in time was that?
