The name Meikle, in contrast to Meiklejohn, is fairly widely spread in the Scottish Lowlands (between Edinburgh and Glasgow), but most prominent in Lanarkshire, ie. closer to Glasgow. The life of my wife's Meikle forebears focused in the later 18th and early 19th centuryon the area around Ecclesmachan, Westlothian. Ecclesmachan is not far from Dalmeny, the seat of the Primrose family (Lord Rosebery), allowing room for the often claimed relationship (illegitimate?), probably arising from feudal obligations at the time. All this features in my recently published book "Our Own World History." I welcome any comments and enquiries. Thank you.
