Today I went to Federal Archives, PNW branch to check out IN Mellingers of 1860 to try to identify 2 sons of Abraham b 1786, Pr. Hellam, York Co, in Clark Co. IN by 1820, then Jefferson & Fountain Cos.Believe it is he in 1860 listed as A Mellinger, Mt. Ayr, Middlefork Twp, Ringgld, w Francis Cossant family age 74 as Traveling Stranger.I found:
Samuel, Rossville, Clinton Co, p181: age 42, b PA, wife, Elizabeth, 32, PA; John, 12, PA, Jacob, 8, PA, Mary 4, IN; Ellen, 2, IN, prob. arriving IN too late.
Henry, Wayne Twp, Walesboro, Bartholomew Co, age 29, Farmer, wife Sara, 25, Clarissa, 5, Harvy A, 4 & Albert 1, parents b Ohio, children b. IN.He is tempting because neighbor ofCharles Daugherty, 69,collateral Mellinger-Fix-Dougherty family, but seems too young, and came through OH to IN.
Jacob Mellinger, Putnam Co, Greencastle, farmer, age 35, wife, Susan, 30, b. PA Jacob, 15, Rebecca "idiot" 10; Adam, 7; Napoleon, 5; Theodore, 3; James, 1, and Ann R. Kramer, 70, probably Susan's mother. Children all b. IN.
