Hi again Christopher, Well you may not have been back to the site since I last contacted you so you're possibly not aware of another contact who posted a follow-up to my last message - Big Shaz! She had some documents which were Melles related and was able to confirm that: Jane Melles (ms McLay) died Apr 17 1879 in Gargunnock. She was the widow of William Melles, master blacksmith. Her parents names were not known to the informant, David Taylor, son in law. Her daughter, Jane Russell (ms Mellis) died Jul 14 1911 in Wishaw. She was the widow of William Russell, a farm overseer. Her father was William Mellis, blacksmith dec.Her mother was Jane McLay dec.Informant was son in law John Gibb. I had already obtained from IGI a record of 4 issue born to William Russell and Jane Melles, 2 were born in Slamannan and 2 were born in Cambusnethan so that lead me to believe that I was on the right track - sooner or later they had to arrive in the Wishaw area as that is where my husband comes from. Of interest to me is the fact that Jane McLay died in Gargunnock which I believe is where your Melles tribe heralded from so I wonder now if there is some relation to your kinfolk? Also interesting to note that your folk used the 'Melles' name and the Wishaw branch used the 'Mellis' spelling! Hope this of interest to you Regards Heather.
