David Barron wrote in his TV-Radio Notebook column an article in the March 2, 2012 Houston Chronicle Newspaper in the Sports Section titled "Melton on road to recovery."
Tim Melton says he's day to day, but then again, aren't we all?Thankfully, however, Melton, now has a sense that he will be able to recover from a stroke he suffered last October. He made his first public commments Thursday on his condition and hopes for recovery. The longtime KTRK (Channel 13) sports anchor and reporter posted an update on his Facebook page regarding his condition that confirmed the nature of his illness. "I thank all of you who have expressed your concern as to what caused by absence, but I wanted to wait until I had a good sense of what the future holds before saying anything," he wrote. "I am happy to report I'm getting better every day." My thanks to all my friends at Channel 13 for their concern and support. And special thanks to my sons and wife, who have had to go through the recovery with me ... and I'm not always the greatest patient."Not a day has gone by this year that I haven't received at least one email aksing aobut Melton's whereabouts and condition. His situation was generally know through the ranks of Houston's TV reporters, but the station had declined comment and Melton himslef preferred to keep his condition private as he worked toward recovery."If there's not concern there's curiosity, and I appreciate those who are concerned. I even appreciate those who are curious," he said. Melton said he does not know when he will return to the air."It's like the injury report, where they're listed as day to day," he said."The thing is making progress. Some areas are closer than others, but I'm making progress every day.At least I have a good sense of the fact that I can make it back, and that is the biggest thing."
