Im not up on the Lumbee but maybe someone on this board is. Was your family from Robeson NC? Mine froom Wilkes and Burke and they stayed there for hundreds of years. I do find ties to the Cherokee and the Saponi/Catawba in Burke. If you have ancestry and search NC death records. No name just search under Native American as Race and Burke county you will not only come up with death records of Eastern Band Cherokee ( Indians born in Swain, Jackson and Graham counties) but I found I think 2 death records last I checked that came from and were born in Robeson County but died in Burke.
The Saponi that went with the Catawba that are tribal members reside I believe in York, SC today.
I have heard the term Blackfoot applied to the Saponi. Something to do with their blackened feet??? The Saponi are not the actual Blackfoot tribe.
