Menaugh could be a variation of Menagh. I know Menagh is a variation of Menaugh. The question is which spelling came first. There is a line of Menagh's in New Jersey who used to spell it Menaugh. They dropped the "u" for some reason in the mid-1800's. My name started out as Menaugh, according to early census records, for some reason my line changed the "e" to an "a". My fourth great grandfaher was born in Tyronne, Northern Ireland. hOwever, we pronounce it Men-o or May-no. There is evidence out there that strongly points to a French Origin. The root being Menou. The family was supposed to have been involved with the Huguenots and forced out of France, fleeing to Scotland where they added to "gh"., and later moving to northern Ireland.
