I am looking for descendents of the Sephardi Jewish Mendoza/Mendonca family. Mendonca is a common name and most Mendoncas are not of Jewish descent.
Two apparently Jewish branches went to Brazil:
The Saraiva de Mendonca from Spain (possibly Madrid) settled in Recife, Pernambuco, in the early 17th Century.
I believe members of the Cubas y Mendonca from Spain settled in Paraiba de Sul in Rio de Janeiro state (or maybe Paraiba state). I think some moved to the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The family arrived in Brazil in the 17th Century.
In Portugal, Jewish Mendoncas may have been originally living in the north-east including in the town of Vimioso. Joseph Pestana Mendonca was the patriarch of the Soares de Mendonca family that lived in Guarda in the 17th Century.
It is possible that some family members lived in south-east France and Amsterdam, Holland, in the 17th Century.
