I just discovered today my g-g-grandmother, Martha, is a Menefee, b 1831, TN. Her marriage license reveals she married 13 Feb 1849, Kenton Co. KY, to James Dickerson, b. abt 1817,KY. Her father was "B S Menefee", b. N.Carolina. Mother, unknown name, b. S.Carolina. She has at least one sister, Mary Ann, married Livingston Carlisle 15 May 1844, Kenton Co. KY. I have no other information on James.
James and Martha moved to Missouri, primarily, Moniteau. They had 5 children, names listed by intials only on 1860 census, RT, EJ, JA, MF and HM.
1870 Census, James Dickerson is not listed, but shows 3 of the 5 children names noted above: Ella J, Julia A, Mary F Dickerson. HM apparently died, and RT would have been 19, so may have moved out. Also noted on same census is, Elizabeth (Dollie) J Geer/Gear. Her father is not listed, but 1900 census shows Martha as a widow.
Dollie married Edward Orville Butler, abt 1892, Durant, OK. Their daughters, Alma Jane and Lucille (my grandmother).
