The Red Oak Iowa Meng Family came to Red Oak in 1893, directly from the German-Russian colony of Messer, along the Volga River. The family was among the original colonists to Messer in 1767, coming from Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
I know of one "uncle" who went to Illinois, but the others either remained in Red Oak or moved west. Most ended up either in Oregon or California, but one went to Montana, one to South Dakota, and one to Utah.
There was another, German, Meng family in another county in Iowa, whose descendants I have occasionally in Iowa indexes.
I do know of another Messer colony, German-Russian, Meng (Alexander F.) who went to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1912, but I do not know how he connects to the Messer Mengs, as his immigration record does not list his father.
