I'm looking for any scrap of information about the ancestors and siblings of John Meng and Eva Hart. This couple emigrated from the Saratov (Volga) region of Russia (possibly the village of Messer) in 1893 with several of their children. Once in the US, they joined John's brother and two sisters in Red Oak, Montgomery Co., Iowa.
We do know the names only of John's parents (from his death certificate in Red Oak): Jacob Meng and Catharine Meng. They had four children who emigrated to Red Oak: 1) Mary Annie Meng, b. Sep 1823 m. Den Snyder and emigrated w/ him in abt 1876. 2) John Meng, b. 25 Dec 1832 m. (Katharina) Eva Hart and emigrated in 1893 3)Henry Meng, b. 25 Mar 1834 m. Margaret K. Meng (dau. of Jakob Meng and Elisabeth Fritzler) and emigrated abt. 1892 4) Mary Catherine Meng, b. 16 Jun 1840/1842 m. George Wombold and emigrated on the ship Donau, arriving in New Yor 5 Aug 1876.
John Meng and Eva Hart arrived on the Dresden at Ellis Island on 13 Jan 1893. Traveling with them were their children: Anna Katharina; Franz; Heinrich Peter; married son John w/ his wife Katharina Pabst and their three sons; married daughter Catherina Elizabeth w/ her husband Andreas Henry Kern and their two children. They also had a grandson, Heinrich Meng age 9 months in their party, parents unidentified.
This grandson might or might not be the same grandson Henry Meng who lives with them in 1900, and is 13 (seems unlikely that the maker of the ships passenger list would mistake a 6 year old for a 9 month old.)
