Sorry...I've been tied up with family visits for a while, then my computer chose to "act up" so I haven't been on the Forums for a while. As for it being odd that there wasn't a funeral home listed, I'm not sure at what point the practice of neighbors cleaning, dressing and burying the deceased was stopped. Did it happen to mention a cemetery? I have books for both Gross and Caruth Funeral Homes during that time period and his name is not included, but there were probably other establishments. I'll check with the historical society next time I am in Hot Springs---or you might want to post that question. I am pretty sure that Monk was a cousin to my great-grandmother, but don't remember her ever talking about him.
