I may have a connection here.I believe Nancy Mentzer may have been my 3rd great grandmother. The details that I have seem to fit:
1.born 13 Jan 1798 in Franklin county, PA 2.married John Coleman sometime around 1820-1822 3.John Coleman was a millwright 3.had a total of 11 children 4.moved to Lake Township, Ashland, Ohio in 1835-1836 5.moved to Thorn Creek Township, Whitley, Indiana in 1865. 6.John died in 1870 7.Nancy died on 13 Dec 1874 in Whitley county, Indiana 8.Nancy is buried in Stough Cemetery, Columbia City, Whitley, Indiana
1.Do you know who here parents and/or siblings were? 2.I have found possible parents:Samuel Mentzer and Eva Hinkle or George Mentzer and Susannah Hoover 3.I have also seen alternate birthdates:2 Nov 1895; 14 Feb 1800 4.I have also seen a Nancy Mentzer from Franklin county married to:Michael Kintner; Henry Beckner or Bakener
For a long time I have been confused about the spelling of her last name:Maincer, Mainzer, Menser
1.Counties of Whitley and Noble, Indiana. Weston A. Goodspeed and Charles Blanchard, 1882, page 330.
This source lists the wife of John Coleman as "Nancy" -- details seem to fit.
2.Lewis Publishing Company. 1912. History of Porter County, Indiana: A Narrative Account of its Historical Progress, its People and its Principal Interests. Chicago, Illinois: Lewis Publishing Company. 881 p. Page(s) in Source: 613-616
This source has details that seem to fit as well; however it lists the wife of John Coleman as "Sarah Menser"-- otherwise everything else fits.
However, the "Sarah" part contradicts archival information and the gravestone itself.
Hope you can clarify and have some more info to share.Thanks.
