PITTSFIELD -- Stella M. Chadbourne, 89, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2003, in Augusta, Maine with her family at her side.
She was born August 25, 1914 in Canterbury New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Levi and Edith Estey Merrithew.
Stella had been a resident of Pittsfield for many years where she graduated from Maine Central Institute, class of 1934. She was employed by the Lancy House in Pittsfield as well as a clerk at Dysart's Store.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enriched the lives of many, both family and friends with her gentle and caring touch. Stella had a lifelong passion for baking and will always be remembered for her delicious apple pies and spice cupcakes. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, listening to country music and family gatherings. She was an avid Red Sox fan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred L. Chadbourne, as well as six brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Chadbourne and wife Lois of Rutland, Massachusetts, Robert Chadbourne and wife Sandra of Pittsfield, Maine; two daughters, Marlene Sawyer and husband Terry of Belgrade, Maine, Patricia McDow and husband Gary of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Kathleen Harrington of Cherryfield, Maine, Verna Hanson of Gardner, Massachusetts, Mildred Monahan of Twin Mountains, New Hampshire and Elizabeth Randall of Pittsfield. She was also blessed with 13 wonderful grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 30, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Pittsfield. For those who wish, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield in Stella's memory.
Arrangements are under the direction of Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
