One of my 5th great grandfathers was Amos MERRIHEW (MERITHEW), b. 2 SEP 1738 in Dartmouth, MA and d. 19 Nov 1794 in Dutchess County (Nine Partners?) NY. He married Elizabeth SPOONER (b. 28 Feb 1737/38) on 2 APR 1762, although I have their place of marriage as Dartmouth, MA not Dutchess, NY. Sounds like a match, though.
As the other reply to your post states, Teag(u)e was Amos' great grandfather, not his father. His father was Preserved MERRIHEW, b. 30 Mar 1704 and married to Sarah TABER (b. 2 Mar 1704/05) in 1727. Sarah, as you undoubtedly know, was the gggranddaughter of Francis COOKE of the Mayflower (Sarah Taber, Joseph, Mary Tomsom, Mary Cooke, Francis) , so there is lots of solid information all the way down to her son Amos MERRIHEW (MERITHEW); esp., Ralph Wood's "Francis Cooke of the Mayflower, the First Five Generations," published in 1996.
Anyway, I have Preserved's father and Amos' grandfather as Josiah, b. abt 1673 in Yarmouth MA and married to Hope Borden. Amos' greatgrandfather in this line is Teag(u)e MERRIHEW, perhaps the one that you asked about. I have in my database that Teag(u)e was born in Kent, England, but to be honest I cannot track down the source of that information at the moment. Maybe that would be a place to start, though. Keep in mind that most of the early documents I have seen have the name as MERITHEW, not MERRIHEW.
I would be interested in knowing if you have any information about the decendants of Amos and Elizabeth (SPOONER) MERRIHEW. I would like to fill in some blanks in my line (and perhaps off it a bit) down a couple of generations from Amos MERRIHEW, John, Sarah.
