Hi Steve, I am seeking proof or a good lead that places William Merriman Belt in the Merriman (Merryman) family.I have seen a listing on the LDS IGI that shows a marriage between Merryman Belt to Margaret Whiteford on 9 may 1805 in Baltimore, Maryland. They had 2 sons that I know of: Whiteford (1812-1859) and Henry (1814-1864). The 2 sons and their mother go to Ohio in 1820 (don't know what happened to father). The 2 sons marry 2 Dickensheets sisters.
As you notice, the first son, Whiteford, seems to have been given his mother's maiden name. I'm thinking the same thing happened to their father. He might have gotten the name Merryman from his mother's maiden name or perhaps grandparent. Merryman doesn't seem to be a common first name, but if William is his first name, Merryman could be his middle name. This Merryman married twice (Margaret was 2nd marriage), first was to Sara Randall in 1794. One family researcher has said that he was in the Maryland militia may 31, 1794. But I have not found any record to support this.
Again, a listing fot Merryman as son of Leonard Belt and Hannah Parrish. They also list a ton of children to them, many are duplicated. But I do think that they are listed with many children on Belt family listings, but I have never seen a son Merryman.
What I am hoping is that you might see some info in your printout that this info might fit into.
