Good Morning Susan,
Actually, the information I provided in my previous post was my attempt to help Charles & Michael with their own research of Leslie Meservey. What I have is information I've come across while in search of informaton from my own branch of the Meservey family. I didn't realize they already had this information.
I do not believe the LaForest born about 1877 as son to John & Isabelle is my great-great grandfather, Ernest LaForest. From other documents I have, I know Ernest was born April 5, 1874 in Moxie Place, Somerset County and that he had six brothers & sisters all of whom were older than he.My best lead as to who his parents were are William & Betsey Meservey from Greenville, Piscataquis County, Maine.Do you have any information regarding the Meservey's of Greenville?
From the 1880 Census for William, Betsey and their six children, I found too many similarities to ingnore the possibility. The youngest child, Leo, was born in 1874.They may have called him Leo, short for LaForest, I suppose.Afterall, if Sally can be "short" for Sarah and Polly for Mary, anything is possible.
From the way it appears, I want to say that our Meservey branches meet a couple of generations or so further back from Leslie Meservey.I find it interesting that the name LaForest was used in some capacity of both households.I hadn't considered the possibility that Ernest was part Indian as my family's connection has always stood with the fact Ernest's wife Laura Sanborn was a full-blooded Passamaquoddy and that is where the connection was made.
Thank you,
Matthew
