More than one year ago I posted a query regarding Messengers in turn of the century Seattle area, and never received a response.I have found some of the information I was looking for myself, and I am posting it here.
Royal Burton Messenger was born Oct. 6, 1883.He married Clara Hickok, and they had one son, David. They lived in Marysville Washington, and later in Monroe Washington.I have not been above to find out where either of them are buried. He served in the Naval Reserves during WWI.
Royal Hastings Messenger was the father of Royal Burton, listed above. He was a Civil War vet, having served in the Illinois 4th Infantry. He married Arabelle (Belle or Bell) Kirkpatrick on March 25, 1869 in Iowa. They had several children but I have not been able to locate information on all of them.Royal and Arabelle left Iowa and pioneered their way west to the Washington Territory, along with his brother Dennis and his family, sister Mary Ruark ad her family, and his widowed mother Jane Johnson Messenger. They first settled in Pomeroy in the extreme southeastern corner of the state. That is where Mary and Jane and Dennis, and some of their descendents are buried. The cemetery records are herehttp://www.interment.net/data/us/wa/garfield/bethel/kirby.htmhttp://www.interment.net/data/us/wa/garfield/bethel/kirby.htm.
Royal and his family moved to Marysville Washington and lived out the rest of their lives. They are buried in the Marysville cemetery. Those records are here http://www.thirdstbooks.com/msvlglobejan17.htmlhttp://www.thirdstbooks.com/msvlglobejan17.html.I have scanned in a copy of Royal Hastings Messenger and Bell Kirkpatricks Certificate of marriage, and will email it upon firstname.lastname@example.org.
Royal was the son of Frederick Dent Messenger and Jane Johnson Messenger.Frederick and Jane had 12 children that I know of.Those children are as follows: John Ecard Messenger, Clark Messenger, Mary Adelia Messenger, David Grove Messenger, Dennis V. Messenger, Samuel Johnson Messenger, Royal Hastings Messenger, Virgil Messenger, Rollin and Orlin Messenger (twins), Hyram Messenger, and Martha Amelia Messenger. I believe Clark, Virgil, Hyrum and Martha died in infancy or childhood.
Frederick Dent Messenger’s father was Grove (Grover) Messenger. And his mother was PamelaGibbons.
I hope this information is helpful in your Genealogy search.I would love additional information on this line of Messengers.Thank you!
