Jason, This is a list of where to start. First if he died in 1982 or so, you can order his death records. Funeral homes would have it and check with the cemetery that he is buried in to ask what Funeral home that the families used. Most of the time the families use the same one most of the time in the same areas. Most of the death records have the parents names on them and also what they died from and where they were born. this is a Wonderful place to start.
Also ask for the wife death records and funeral records. Also looking for the obituary will tell you when the couple married or whee the lived before or where they came from.
Also the Census gives you leads especially the 1900 will tell maybe where the parents were born and the Month and year of birth of the each person in the family and if the member of the family was married and how many years or how many marriages.
Also if you can't find that you can use the directories of the town to find out what they did in the jobs they do. Check for your father or mother school records if they are not living and that will tell you if they parents information is place there.
I hope this will help you on the right track. Rose
