Queenia Messer married R. H. Moore 31 December 1905 in Lamar County, MS.She married him again on 1 November 1908, but this time the license was issued to Howard E. Edwards, alias R. H. Moore and Mrs. Queenia Messer, alias Mrs. Queenie Moore.
Howard's family is said to have come from Pennsylvania in the late 1600s down through Illinois, Ohio and Indiana, where Howard was born in 1879.He supposedly attended Blue Mountain College in North Mississippi and was called to the ministry. However, he earned his living as a house painter.
He and Queenia lived for a time in Florida with his brother, who owned orange groves. They had at least three and perhaps four children:Mitford born 1906, Chidester born 1909 and Angeline born in 1912.Following the birth of Angeline the couple returned to Lamar County, Mississippi.A fourth child, possibly a girl, may have been born about 1915.
By 1920 Queenia was living in town in Sumrall, MS with her three children, and told the census taker that she was widowed. However in June, 1921 she filed for and was granted a divorce from Howard Edward Edwards.
Further research shows that Howard Edward Edwards was in federal prison in Atlanta Georgia when he registered for the draft in 1918.
I have information about Queenia's father and the rest of her family to share, and also have a family story about what happened to Howard that I need to verify.Thanks.
