I recently noticed that my grandfather's middle name was 'Meston'. I found this out from my own father's birth certificate. My grandfather's full name was James Meston Hopkins, from Dundee, Scotland, my home town.He married Margaret Watson Sutherland on 4 Oct 1912. He was born c. 1888.As is the tradition in Scotland, the middle name is always taken from the mother's maiden name. That being the case, I am presuming that my great-grandmother was born a 'Meston'. At this stage in my search, I am not sure what her christian was, but I could certainly find out from my aunt, the last remaining child of James Meston Hopkins. This is the first step in my search for my ancestors. I do believe that my paternal ancestors did come from Aberdeenshire and also further north, from Sutherland. If this is any help to you, I can be contacted by e-mail.
