In the "Stevens - Washburn With Related Lines" genealogy by Annie Stevens Jones, it states, "Paul Micou was born in France about 1658."She goes on to say, he "was living in Nantes, France, when the Edict which protected the French Protestants was revoked.He fled for his life, as did many others, going first to England.He was 27 years of age at the time, and may have been married or he may have married in England.He came to America efore 1695."She quotes the Huguenot Society Magazine saying, "Paul Micou is thought to have brought his wife and elder children with him.He certainly brought his library, pictures, and plate."She goes on to say he founded an estate he called "Port Micou" and had large land holdings and many slaves.He was also Justice of the Peace in Essex Co. VA from 1700 to 1720.
