I do not have much information, but there may be a connection.
My grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Millen b. May 29, 1885 in Fairview, Newton County, Missouri (near Joplin); d. 1970 in Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana.
According to the my information she was the daughter of Thomas (Tommy) Millen b. January 12, 1861 in Butler County, Ohio.
His father (given name unknown to me) was reported to be from Ireland.I understand his mother was Mary Powell b. January 02, 1829.She was the daughter of Howell Powell b. March 11, 1795.
According to my mother, Mary Powell and husband Millen went to California to mine gold. There Mary would sit with a large apron and her husband would pan for gold and toss nuggets into the apron.
Mary then left California by ship with three children: William Millen (later a policeman), Anna Millen, and Thomas Millen.
I have correspondence from a son of Mary Millen's brother, Orren Millen b. May 19, 1888 also in Missouri. Also there was another brother, Martin Ray Millen b. September 16, 1891 in Bippus, Indiana; d. June 13, 1897 1891 in Bippus.I have a copy of a newspaper story about the accidental death of Martin.
I have a set of handwritten interrogatories and answers completed by Howell Powell dated May 11th 1873.Also, I have pages of handwritten family notes on Powell.I believe these to have been written by my grandmother Mary Elizabeth Millen Wike.
I have (1) a "stock certificate" for punctuality awarded to Thomas Millen and signed by teacher Jane Athert, (2) a "Reward of Merit" presented to Thomas Millen and signed by teacher A. M. Price, and (3) the envelope for the later with writing in the northwest corner "California Feb 14th 1865" and "Tommy Millen Butler C. Ohio".
I would be happy to send Family Group Sheets for my Millen ancestors and copies of any of the above mentioned items.
These Millens fit the pattern of your posting.I hope this has some use.I am seeking addition information also as you can see I have very little.
