The oral history in our Millen family is that Mac was dropped over the side of the boat on the trip over. I always thought that they meant from Scotland to America. However, I just recently found out, it was on the boat trip from Scotland to Northern Ireland. This must have been at some time after Culloden. I have only met 2 people with the last name of Millen, that were not part of my family. It is such an uncommon name, that I have always felt that anyone with this name must be related somehow. LOL. The story goes on to say that they left Scotland for Ireland with the intention of going on to America. However, it took our part of the family about 20 yrs before they left Ireland & at that time alot stayed on in Ireland. One of my uncles looked for Millens in the phone book there & said there were about 50 listed, he couldn't believe it. If anyone out there has a different story or more info I would love to hear about it.
