I purchased an undated (circa 1880s) studio portrait of five women taken by J. S. Wissler, Canton, OH, identified in modern times with a self-adhesive label affixed to the back of the mount reading:
1. ELSIE DAGER 2. EMMA WECKMAN 3. 4. LOUISE ARBENS 5. MEL WECKMAN
1 & 4 SISTERS
2 & 5 SISTERS"
Dager and Arbens [sic; should read Arbenz] are married names. Based on a "California Death Index" record for Gladys A. Arbenz, born 3 Jul 1902 in OH, died 5 Feb 1989 in Orange Co., CA, I believe that Miller is the maiden name of Elsie and Louise.
Elsie Miller, born about 1865 in OH, married John Calvin Danger (1864-1935).The couple had two children. The family is listed in the 1910 Census data for Canton (resided at 1641 South Market Street), Stark Co., OH; the 1920, 1930 and 1940 Census data for Canton (resided at 1453 Market Avenue S.), Stark Co., OH.Note that Elsie used the middle initial "M." as recorded by three different enumerators.
Louise Miller, born about 1867 in OH, married Harry F. Dager (1875-).The couple had five children. The family is listed in the 1896 and 1902 Canton, OH city directories (resided at 1641 S. Market (note: this is same as the street address for Elsie in 1910), the 1910 Census data for Triadelphia, Ohio Co., WV; and the 1920 Census data for Liberty District (resided in Dixon Run), Ohio Co., WV.
