I am also researching Charles W MINARD and would love to compare notes with you.I am doing this research as a gift to an elderly friend and would love to compare notes. My friend is a grandson of Charles W. MINARD JR's daughter, Frances Elizabeth Minard. She was married to Adam Yeckley.
I've been entering the data from a DAR application and then doing research online. The DAR record lists Charles's birthday as 20 April 1847. I found the christening record for 16 May 1847 on familysearch.org and also found census records with Charles Jr. with parents with the names Charles and Elizabeth. I've assumed that this is the same family, but hoped to have more secure verification.Have you seen the christening record? Is there a birth date listed with it?
I also have found 2 more possible children: #1Elizabeth Ann MINARD.The 1860 census lists a 14 year old daughter, E. Ann, 14, born in England, attended school with in the year. The 1880 census lists Elizabeth MINARD, daughter, female, single, white, age 30, born in England, occupation-clerk, parents both born in England. I believe this is their first born child.
I am also wondering if they had a son named Rubin MINARD, although I want further verifcation.I have found a record for the death of a child in online Michigan death records. The details are Death:13 May 1873.Ledger page 238, record#1307.Place:Detroit, Waye county. Male, white, single.Age at death: 3 days.Cause: remittance fever.Birthplace:Michigan.Father:Charles W. Minard, residence: Detroit.Mother:Betsey Minard, residence: Detroit.Date of record: 1 Sept 1874.(http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/scripts/gendis/individual.idc?UniqueID=230600)The assumption is being made that Betsey is short for Elizabeth Minard.
I understand that this would make Elizabeth 47 at the time of Rubin's birth, but it appears to me to be the family.I just found it last week so it needs further research.
I don't know much more about Charles William MINARD and Elizabeth than what you listed.I didn't even know her name was Smith. But I would be happy to share what I have and would love to learn from you.
