St. Charles (Kane County, Illinois) Chronicle, May 5, 1905. Barn Burned. A barn belonging to George Minard on East Walnut and Third streets took fire at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning and burned to the ground. It was used by A. Saperston. There was some feed destroyed, but the greater loss was the building, which was insured, however.
On the north side of the burning structure were two barns, being almost touching it, but hard work and good management on the part of the fire company prevented the destruction of the other buildings.
One of the two hydrants in town was connected and the big pump was enabled to do effective work. The timbers in the old barn were oak, and it was not so quickly consumed as are the later buildings put up with pine timbers. (Posted as a courtesy, not related.)
