1783 LAND: Rockingham Co, VA, 4 Mar, Robert Minnis, North Fork of South Branch of Potomac.This was followed on 30 Apr 1788 with William Patterson, 80 acres, Roreing Spring run of the above adjoining Cunningham, Minnis (Peter Cline Taylor, cp, Abstracts of Land Grant Surveys of Rockingham 1761-1791, Harrisonburg, 1938).Rockingham Co was formed from Augusta in 1778 and a Robert is shown there on the tax list of Isaac Henkle in 1784 for one white soul, one dwelling, and two other buildings.
The 1787 VA census lists three Roberts: one (unknown) in King George Co, one (Robert II) in Monongalia Co, and one (Robert III) in Rockingham Co.Pendleton Co was formed from Rockingham in 1788 and the censuses of 1810 and 1820 there list a Robert Minnis.This one probably died there in 1824 and his will lists his wife as Bauley (Polly); sons: Robert, Wheeler and John; daughters: Betsy and Margaret (Pendleton Co, VA, WB 4-22. will recorded 4 Aug 1824).
